AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: ANNA WELLS
Debut author Anna Wells? Has joined us to chat about her first book and life in general….
Donovan Prentice is an FBI Agent that is investigating a series of terrorist bombings. He suspects Alaina might be working with the terrorist’s organization since her deceased father was one of their leaders. However he can’t fight his growing attraction to her despite his suspicions. Alaina is unaware she’s a suspect and it equally attracted to Donovan, but how can she trust someone who believes her late father was a terrorist? Throw in some hot sex and you’ve got a suspenseful and steamy read.
There were a number of things that inspired me. I think FBI agents are really hot so I wanted to write an action packed story with an FBI agent. I also loved the idea of an insurmountable conflict between the couple. Both characters mistrust each other, but they can’t fight their compelling attraction to each other.
When you start writing, do you already have the story plotted out or do you let the characters dictate what will happen?
I would have to say little bit of both. I write out a rough plot and then start creating my characters. Once I start writing scene the characters often have a mind of their own.
What inspired you to write in your genre? Is this the genre you started writing in or have you morphed to this one?
I’ve love the sexual tension and energy romantic suspense novel and I also love how the heat level in romance is going up so I wanted to combine the two and mix in a little laughter.
Do you have a favorite character you have written?
Right now, I’m really partial to Elise, Alaina’s best friend. I think she might to have her own story in the future.
Who was the toughest character for you to “get right” that you have written so far?
Trust Me is my first book and I am now working on my third. I have to admit that Alaina’s character was the hardest to get right. I think because she was my first heroine. I wanted her to be smart, likeable, and loyal but like all of us imperfect.
Do you draw inspiration for your characters from real life? Any fun stories you could share?
Absolutely, I often notice funny quirks and characteristic in friends and family that I use to build and develop characters. I think this brings authenticity to the characters. As far as sharing…I’ll never tell!
What do you find the hardest part of writing?
The hardest part about writing is finding the time during your day to write.
Name one thing that your readers would be surprised to know about you.
I haven’t always wanted to be a writer. Whenever I read author interviews they all say they’ve been writing since they were children. This is a very new venture for me, although, I’ve always loved reading romance!
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Drinking champagne and lots of it!
What TV Show ares you addicted to?
Modern Family, Breaking Bad, Diners Drive-ins and Dives, and Mad Men
What do you need before you start writing? Anything that is just a must have or the creative juice don’t flow?
A goodnight sleep and a cup of coffee.
Does music influence your writing? If so, do any of your stories have a theme song?
No sorry, I’ve dialogue in my head not music
If your story was optioned for a movie, who would play your characters?
Michelle Monaghan & Jake Gyllenhaal
How old were you when you read your first romance book?
I was 15 and I haven’t stopped since.
What author causes you to “go fan girl”/ squeal over/anticipate upcoming books?
Julia Quinn for historical romances and Julie James for her very witty contemporary romances.
Do you have a favorite movie you have seen in the last few months and/or an all-time favorite?
I absolutely adore Legally Blonde. It is another one of my guilty pleasures; I watch it over and over.
What are you currently working on, and what else is in the wings?
I’m working on a trilogy, called Billionaire Brothers. These stories will be more character driven and have a lot more humor than my first book.
I’m really excited about my next book, Relentless which will start the series. A friends to lovers story with a number of interesting twists. The book is about Donavan’s sister, Michaela Prentice and her friend Jordan Marsh. Michaela and Jordan’s friendship begins in the worst of circumstances after she discovers his girlfriend in bed with her fiancé. However, Jordan has no intention of staying in the friend zone forever. As they make the transition from friends to lovers Michaela soon realizes that Jordan isn’t the friend or lover she thought she knew. His world is filled with secrets and she soon finds herself caught up in his deceptions. Yes, there will be more suspense, lots of steamy sex and a great deal of laughter.
If you could co-write with another author who would it be?
Julie James, I always feel like her characters are real.
How do you pick your characters names?
I start developing the characters and then I try and think of a name that suits them.
Do you prefer the love at first sight approach or a steady growth throughout?
I think a little bit of both, but there always has to be that immediate attraction between the couple.
Where can readers find you?
You can find me on
And for the silly side –
What is your favorite type of chocolate?
Champagne truffles. See, it all goes back to my guilty pleasure!
Ranger or Morelli?
Morelli! I think Ranger is just a passing flirtation because she never gets a solid commitment from Morelli. Sigh….but Ranger is so sexy. I guess it’s hard for me to decide too! My sympathies are with Stephanie!
