AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: CHARISMA KNIGHT
Charisma Knight has stopped by the JR site to chat with the bunnies…
Tell us a little about Diamond Mine:
Well, I’ve been on a science fiction/futuristic kick for quite some time now. I have many other sci-fi WIPs I need to complete. I don’t think there are a lot of interracial/futuristic stories out there. I’ve always wondered how things would be hundreds of years from now and enjoy constructing stories based from my imagination.
When you start writing, do you already have the story plotted out or do you let the characters dictate what will happen?
Sometimes I allow my characters and muse to dictate my story. It is rare when I construct an outline.
What inspired you to write in your genre? Is this the genre you started writing in or have you morphed to this one?
As a teenager I started reading romance novels, but was disappointed at the closed door scenes so my imagination picked up where the author left off. When I saw there was a market for erotica and erotic romance, I was hooked as a reader and a writer.
Do you have a favorite character you have written?
No favorites for now, they are all close to my heart.
Who was the toughest character for you to “get right” that you have written so far?
My most difficult character is Diana from The Beast Within and Dark Heart of Charm City. She is a most unusual heroine.
What do you find the hardest part of writing?
I try writing during the day when my mate and daughter are away, however things don’t always work that way. I can’t stay glued to my laptop all day. I must take breaks to exercise, run errands and do some light housework.
Name one thing that your readers would be surprised to know about you.
I have a few YA WIP I should be finishing up.
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
What TV Show are you addicted to?
The Walking Dead!
What do you need before you start writing? Anything that is just a must have or the creative juice don’t flow?
Coffee is a must have
Does music influence your writing? If so, do any of your stories have a theme song?
Usually playing a little metal in the background helps, but my stories don’t have theme songs.
If your story was optioned for a movie, who would play your characters?
Hugh Jackman/Sanaa Lathan. Those two just seem to have some chemistry.
Where were you when you got your first contract? Who did you tell first?
I was home when I received my first contract. My children and my mate were the first to hear the good news!
How old were you when you read your first romance book?
Thirteen, fourteen or so
If you still have one of those pesky non -writing jobs what is it?
When I’m not writing I create cover art for publishers. I also have my own freelance graphic design business, Designs By Charisma
What are you currently working on, and what else is in the wings?
Currently working on edits for two different stories, and I have some demon and futuristic pieces I want to publish.
How do you pick your characters names?
I look at name generators online. If it’s a demon or sci fi book I think of something totally off the wall and unique and Google it just to make sure I’m not taking something from a video game.
Do you prefer the love at first sight approach or a steady growth throughout?
I love both.
Where can readers find you?
And for the silly side – What is your favorite type of chocolate?
