AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: VIOLA GRACE

Sneaking an interview in with an author who is always busy, whether writing or with her hobbies…

Viola Grace author of Impassioned – found now at eXtasy Books

Tell us a little about Impassioned, what inspired you to write Impassioned?

Well, as a True Blood fan, I have a thing for Vikings… I started to write Impassioned and the book transformed as I wrote it. Space Vikings rock!
Megan is a psi-Tracker and she has been summoned to Essengar Station. Itis a horrible tease, the one man she ever loved lives on Essengar and aliens are forbidden on the surface.

The War Master has requested her presence and she is shocked to find that Einar, her ex-partner and lost love is now in that position. She is more shocked when he tells her that the child that she was forced to put in stasis is alive, healthy and four years old. After enacting some revenge, she agrees to take on a new job, as his wife. Fighting for her life, the life of her love and her daughter is how she starts her new life on a forbidden planet.

When you start writing, do you already have the story plotted out or do you let the characters dictate what will happen?

I am at the whim of my characters. They do what they want. I merely try and push them to the ending that I envision.

What inspired you to write in your genre? Is this the genre you started writing in or have you morphed to this one?
I have always loved sci-fi, and sci-fi erotica is a fun genre to write in. Impassioned actually includes a cameo by the first character from my Champions of Terra series – Kyra Dannick of Arena Station.

Do you have a favorite character you have written?
Amy Tyrell of Haldis Imperium. The woman who lived her life in a suit of armor and still had the guts to argue with an emperor when she was decanted.

Do you have a character that you look back on now and don’t like?
Yes. Yes I do. I once wrote a series that is now not in publication (thankfully) and I couldn’t take the character seriously – she had no dignity.

Do you draw inspiration for your characters from real life? Any fun stories you could share?

Of course. I take all of my characters from aspects of friends and family. I write more about the personalities than the actual people. Sorry, no fun stories…well, except the one friend that has no sense of self preservation, she gets used a lot.

Name one thing that your readers would be surprised to know about you.
The way I talk if you meet me, is the same voice that I write in. The snarky commentary is mostly me. Okay, it’s all me.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?

Watching daytime court shows. I love it when the judges give the less than smart folks a dressing down.

What do you need before you start writing? Anything that is just a must have or the creative juice don’t flow?

Water, Dr. Pepper and a good review from a previous book.

Will we be seeing any more full length novels from you? (Like the Nexus series)
I have a few planned. But it will be as time permits.

Does music influence your writing? If so, do any of your stories have a theme song?
The Champions of Terra and the Terran Times series all have one song in common, The Final Countdown by Europe.

If your story was optioned for a movie, who would play your characters?

It depends on the story. I have a lot of characters and a lot of books.

Where were you when you got your first contract? Who did you tell first?

I was in my living room when I got the contract. I told my brother and then my best friend.

How old were you when you read your first romance book?
The first pure romance book was twenty-one.  I started sci-fi when I was thirteen, fairy tales and Greek myths when I was eight.

What are you currently working on, and what else is in the wings?

Another Terran Times set. People like them, so I will keep writing them.  Also, another 5 set of Sector Guard books. The Sector Guard is my sci-fi Romance series at Devine Destinies.

And for the silly side – What is your favorite type of chocolate?
Bittersweet. Or free. I like free chocolate!

Or Curly Wurlies from the UK. Those rock. (Like wigwags) yum!
