Finishing his studies at Oxford University Barnabas Leopold, half fae, half vampire and hereditary leader of the East Coast Council of vampires can no longer put off going home. Several years ago his parents died in a plane crash and because the memories at home were too painful Barnabas has avoided the place he once loved like the plague. School is over, so it’s time to face the pain and get on with his life.
Arriving at his ancestral home Barnabas learns that the demons are organizing by systematically targeting council leaders and vampires in key positions. His head of security, Miles Juniper quickly starts increasing the home security measures. It’s the least Miles can do as far as Barnabas is concerned after repeatedly ignoring his overtures and slowly breaking his heart into a million pieces. The two are barely speaking when Miles introduces the additional bodyguards and one in particular catches both their eyes. There’s no doubt bodyguard Digger Slane is their other mate and he’s landed right in the middle of a mess. Knowing how to deal with demons may prove to be easier than getting three vampires to figure out their issues.
Miscommunication on a seemingly global scale is the difficulty a trio of mates face in Barnabas Leopold. An admitted naïve leader and his two confused mates suffer through wrong assumptions and a total lack of trust before finally letting nature take its course by listening to their hearts and bodies rather than their minds. Emotional meltdowns, one after another are common in Barnabas Leopold until they eventually figure things out. Barnabas Leopold drags readers through hell and back. It’s sometimes exhausting.
