Gemmita Ellen Louise May Jacobs is ready to claim her independence from her wealthy father and sheltered background. She is all set to go on a research expedition in the Yukon. Gem never expected her first night in Whitehorse would land her in bed with her mate. Shaun Stevens never thought he would be the guy wanting to find his mate but with his friends all settling down he finds himself lonely. He doesn’t have to despair long because his mate just walked in the door.

However, mating might not be as simple as Gem and Shaun believe. Both of them have different ideals and goals. While Gem is itching for independence and the last thing she needs is another man trying to hem her in. Gem hails from the Deep South with an upbringing that puts most to shame. Can she live with Shaun in the North and be satisfied? Will opposites attract and make a lasting match or will these mates fizzle and search for greener pastures?

Black Gold is a humorous and spicy novel. Gem and Shaun are exciting and enjoyable characters that had me laughing over and over! I love that Black Gold isn’t your typical shifter’s mate novel. Gem has her own important agenda and she keeps it even after she mates with Shaun. Throughout the story Gem and Shaun grow leaps and bounds and it is highly entertaining to watch. Vivian Arend’s Takhini Wolves are intelligent, snarky, sexy and downright fun!
