Lorin Schlessinger divides her time between her desire of being an archaeologist, her recent dig and being the Valkyrie second with the Underworld Council. Lorin prefers to focus on her projects, so paying attention to phones, emails and other things really does take second place with her. She even recently refused to fill in for her mother so she could spend more time and give more attention to the dig, which Lorin believes could be where the underworlds ancestors’ crash landed on the planet.
Gabriel Lupinsky is one happy werewolf. He was just promoted to cover for his boss while she is gone on a sabbatical. The only fly in Gabriel’s world right now is his eyesight, which is getting worse and worse. It is a well-known fact that the werewolves have developed many generic problems after so many years of intermarriage with only werewolves. When a new spectacular find and accident makes Gabriel head out to the dig as a co-manager, his second headache comes to the lead – his boss’s daughter Lorin.
Lorin knows it is her fault that Gabriel has been assigned to spend the summer on the dig, but it was an accident. The tension between Gabriel and Lorin could be cut with a knife until it proves that the tension only hides a sexual spark between them. As things heat up between Lorin and Gabriel, so do the unexpected problems at the dig and strange findings with the first discovery Lorin made. Now Lorin and Gabriel have to spend their time between the dig and the lab. When yet another wonder is found, several other things happen all at once – the Underworld Council discovers that trust has been misused, one of the top students at the dig is acting strange and Lorin and Gabriel have realized that their feelings are something much, much more. Several showdowns happen all at once and when the dust settles, the outcomes might just change many, many lives – including Lorin and Gabriel’s – the question is will the change be a good one or a horrible one?
When two co-workers are forced to work together in close quarters, they find out that passion was just waiting for them to discover it. Chase Me turns Gabriel and Lorin’s world upside down in several ways. I wondered from the beginning if the way Lorin and Gabriel acted towards each other might be hiding something. So I wasn’t surprised when the heat between them turned hot and sweaty. Just the journey that Lorin and Gabriel went on would have been interesting enough but I also received the undercurrents of the Underworld Council and yet another foe that no one expected. I was kept on the edge of my seat until I turned the last page. With the cliffhanger ending on one of the story lines, I’m waiting not so patiently for the next book to see what happens next. There is way too much to say and yet I want everyone to experience what I did so I’m just hinting at things. Chase Me is full on intrigue, red hot passion and suspense and they all just kept getting better as the book went on. Chase Me is a true keeper for any Urban Fantasy collection.
