Since he was a teenager Tucker has known he was different from the rest of the world.  There is this power within him that can be used for good or bad.  The power is linked to his emotions and as long as he can keep them under control he can protect the world form his dark side.  But when the girl that broke his heart walks back into his life needing help Tucker needs to refuse but can’t.  Del’s mother has been kidnapped and she knows the only one who can help is the only boy she ever loved; only now he’s a man and he hasn’t gotten over her rejection.  Can these two survive the passion and danger that lies ahead?

Darkness Within is a hot and thrilling spinoff to the wildly popular Offspring series from Jaime Rush.  I have to say that I really enjoy the direction Ms. Rush is taking with her Desert Rats.  They are a younger generation of Offspring who have been left to their own defenses in the middle of Sin City.  The reader gets a first look at this generation through the eyes of Tucker, a tough and sexy hero.  He’s used to being abandoned and instead of wallowing he’s made a life for himself and all of the people like him he can find. I really cannot get enough of Tucker!  Del is the girl of his dreams but she hurt him so long ago.  You can absolutely feel the pain and the love between these two characters.  Del is a strong woman with a beautiful heart.  It is obvious she lives her life to help others.  When Tucker and Del are reunited the story becomes electric.  The emotion between them is fierce and the plot that drives them is fantastic.  I really hope to read more about Ms. Rush’s Desert Rats.  Darkness Within may come in a small package but this story is powerful, heartfelt and unforgettable!!
