Lauren Townsend is a veterinarian and she is also a clairvoyant – she gets flashes of things to come.  Lauren normally uses her gift to help the animals in her care but here lately she has been having visions of a murder that will happen.  She even discovers where by making the visions work for her while in them.  Lauren decides to see if she can stop the murder by changing what she sees.  Clues from her vision take Lauren across the country to a ranch that has started taking guests.

Cal Taggart used to do the rodeo circuit as a bull rider and when he retired early due to injuries he invested in a ranch.  However the last few years have been more than unkind and Cal is coming close to losing the ranch, so he decided to turn the ranch into a resort for people who want to know what it’s like to be a cowboy.  It almost seems like the ranch is a magnet for bad things, but the resort is slowly making the difference between losing the ranch and keeping it.  Cal isn’t happy about having to open up the ranch to the public except he will do whatever it takes to keep his ranch.

Lauren meets the sexy owner of the ranch and is instantly attracted, only she can’t trust anyone connected with the ranch until she discovers who the murder victim to-be is and who might want to kill her.  Cal is instantly attracted to Lauren and decides to see if she is willing for a little vacation affair.  Lauren is torn between giving in to her feelings for Cal and knowing he might be the person she is hunting for.  When yet another incident happens on the ranch, Cal accepts Lauren’s help when things turn ugly on the ranch.  Lauren learns who the murder victim to-be is but that doesn’t clear Cal quite yet.  Lauren can’t believe that Cal would do anything to hurt any woman.  With the livelihood of the ranch threatened, people are beginning to wonder about each other.  Cal knows that Lauren has been hiding something the entire time she has been there but could she really be behind the accidents?  Lauren realizes that the murder is going to happen soon and strikes out to stop it at the risk of her own life.  Minutes count, as Cal suddenly knows that Lauren might have placed herself in danger and his non-belief of her might harm her.  It’s murder time and the question is will it happen as Lauren has seen so many times or will Cal and Lauren come together in time to stop it and capture the murderer?

A vision of murder leads to passion and then love in Every Breath She Takes.  Lauren hasn’t had visions like this in many years and when one appears, she decides to see if she can stop it from happening.  Cal went from rodeos, to ranch owner, and finally to resort owner all to prove something that really didn’t need to be proven after all.  I freely admit that this is the second time that I have read this story, by two different publishers.  However, I found that the added details and emotions between Cal and Lauren really enhanced this book.  Things that I didn’t understand before were very clear and I understood several of the characters much better.  The interaction between Cal and Lauren was at turns intense and humorous and then intimate.  I never knew which way they would go and that made the plot just that much more suspenseful. I also enjoyed the interactions between Cal and his father, even though I could feel the pain that each felt at first.  Every Breath She Takes takes turns from passion, to suspense, to the fun of discovering interesting things about the person you are attracted to.  This is a mystery that turns the page on the murderer to be with interesting twists.
