Driving down a cold, slushy road one evening Jesse Swanson stops when he spots something laying in the snow. Jesse finds a large, seemingly dead Raven. For some unknown reason Jesse feels obliged to take the bird with him and places it on the back seat. Minutes later Jesse almost causes an accident when a nude young man sits up on his back seat right where he placed the frozen Raven.
Taking the young man home Jesse names him Chris when it’s apparent the guy has no memory of his past. It is also quite clear that Chris doesn’t know how to do much of anything, even speech seems to be a new concept though he picks up whatever he’s taught very quickly.
Over time Jesse and Chris develop feelings for one another. Unfortunately, Jesse’s ex-boyfriend Kevin is making life difficult for both of them. As they grow closer Kevin’s behavior becomes more erratic. Kevin causing problems is one thing, figuring out where Chris came from is something else entirely.
A very special, modern day kind of fable First Flight is what dreams are made of. Don’t question the plotline with logic or try to rationalize the characters reactions, just enjoy First Flight for the lovely story it is. Jesse is an honest, normally unflappable guy fated to bond with a sweet, naïve Raven. Their romance is tender, especially as Jesse teaches Chris about, well everything human. Taking comments literally has new meaning, sometimes with comic results in First Flight. Genuinely enchanting, First Flight charms.
