At a glance Jacob Marshall looks like a rough, tattooed biker. Inside, however, the loner is an intelligent, decent man trying to deal with his doctor’s diagnosis of a rare blood disease. Options of bone marrow transplants and chemotherapy are things Jacob would rather not deal with until later, or never.
Finding one’s mate is a glorious moment, at least it should’ve been for Shelby. But as a vampire he can tell that something’s wrong with Jacob’s blood. Shelby tells Jacob there’s a way to work around his illness. Christian, their Prince can convert the human. Problem solved or it would be if Jacob didn’t feel like conversion is a cheat.
The disease worsens and Jacob weakens. Then his pride is injured when he’s too weak to protect himself. Shelby is trying to respect his mate’s decision though the thought of losing Jacob is almost more than he can bear. Shelby is desperate to change Jacob’s mind but so far the human doesn’t understand that eternity really does mean forever.
For the Rest of Eternity pits emotions against logic, love verses reason. Jacob has managed to ignore the difficult road his illness will force him to take. He simply kept putting it off. Meeting Shelby changes everything though it’s slow going for Jacob. His rationalization of ‘cheating death’ is due to his love and protective feelings for Shelby. Once again, Christian’s Coven offers a fascinating look at romance in the most interesting, emotional, and sometimes cynical ways. A lifetime is a matter of perspective in For the Rest of Eternity.
