Nate Rivera is a Detective in the Resurrection PD and he is also a wolf, as is most of the RPD. Nate always thought he would be the alpha of his work squad but when the testing happened, Nate was surprised to come up as only third best. Severely disappointed, Nate has not let that get in the way of doing the best job he can. While on a stake out for a case, Nate finds himself in a room that he knows was used for doing bad things to kids. Everything in Nate calls for him to find the answers and defend those children and any others that might be caught in the nightmare.
Evina Mohajit is a single mother of twins and the alpha of her work squad with the Resurrection Fire Department. The fact that she is a tiger also gives her a few special gifts besides being a shapeshifter. Evina is surprised when Nate asks her to use her psychic gifts one night to see what had happened in a room that could be a crime scene. Evina’s professional life is helping people and she doesn’t think twice to agree and go. Who says that dogs and cats can’t work together?
Nate and Evina discover that someone is doing horrible things to children of Resurrection, and not just any children but special ones. Trying to keep within the rulebook, Nate goes to his alpha and boss with his findings and a request for help to check it out. One thing is grudgingly given but as clues unfold it becomes Nate and Evina against the world to find the answers and hopefully destroy a ring that is hunting the most vulnerable and helpless in their society. Going against orders puts Nate on the wrong side of his alpha that is hard for him. Evina knows that what they are doing could destroy Nate’s career and yet, she is with him all the way as they look for the answers. Sparks had been simmering just below the surface when they first teamed up and with the more time they spend together, those sparks become fireworks exploding in ecstasy. The final answers are unraveled and Nate and Evina defeat the ring with some help, it turns out that Nate might not have been that far off the mark on the case his squad was trying to solve after all. When the smoke clears two major questions need to be answered: Can Nate and his squad find a way to come back together and what about the love that Nate and Evina have found, can both of their friends and families learn to accept it?
Opposites are supposed to attract, yet can two lovers find a way to solve a crime and also bring two species together in Hidden Crimes. Nate and Evina are about as opposite as possible – she is a cat and a firefighter; he is a dog and a police detective. In the city of Resurrection, there is a firm and wide line between the two – yet when teamed up their attraction can’t be denied. I loved the opposites that Nate and Evina were and how fast they teamed up when it came to defending children. I could tell that going against his boss was a hard choice and Nate knew their might not be any coming back yet his own ethics demanded he find the answers. Evina is a strong and tough woman who defends those she loves and need her help, which had me in her corner from the first moment. Turning the pages I kept wondering what I would find next. The suspense of both the unraveling the crime and of Nate and Evina exploring the passion that they found had me firmly in hand until I turned the last page. I love happy endings and with Hidden Crimes I had more than one which was a huge cherry on top. I have fallen in love with Emma Holly’s Hidden series and all its characters. If you are looking for suspense, passion and a touch of the paranormal, don’t look any farther than Hidden Crimes.
I would suggest reading this series in order, just because the characters are ongoing and intermixed.
