New York Blade player Esa Saari lost his sister to a horrible plane crash and gained a child. Esa’s sister left him custody of her eight year old daughter Nell. Now he is struggling with providing the right kind of environment for Nell and the extreme changes it has brought to his life. First things first he must find a nanny.
Michelle Beck is a nanny with excellent references. It’s a no-brainer for Esa to hire her but he’s got another thing coming if he think’s Michelle will let him get away with neglecting Nell. Michelle never counted on being attracted to the arrogant hockey player. However, she doesn’t plan on crossing the employee/employer line. Too bad for her Esa is determined to get her to cross that line.
Is it possible for this New York Blade to learn how to be a parent and find love?
Deirdre Martin’s Hip Check is an emotionally charged romance. There are many exciting ups and downs in the romance of Esa and Michelle. There were times when I wanted to slap the heck out of Esa, though. He is such a spoiled bachelor at the beginning of this book. It is a fun journey watching him undergo such a dramatic change as he learns to deal with his emotions and a little girl. Michelle is a great character. At first she seems shy but she puts Esa in his place when he needs it. I love her scenes with Nell. Be prepared to fall in love with this sweet little girl and experience some teary moments in Hip Check. Don’t fret there are a lot of sexy romantic bits as well. Esa and Michelle definitely heat things up. Some of my favorite moments were when the rest of the Blades got in on taking care of Nell. This provided lots of laughter and aww moments. Overall, Hip Check isn’t my favorite Blades book but it’s damn good.
