Signed on board the Lady Blue for a one way trip to monitor medical supplies traveling from one planet to another, Dr. Imlay Jones is a somewhat standoffish, peculiar man. For instance, Imlay tried sex once and decided it was too messy and not worth the effort it took.
So far Imlay isn’t impressed with the crew of the Lady Blue, a bunch of brutish shifters and their wild little mates. The one who irritates Imlay the most is Livewire, the ship’s mechanic. There’s just something about the guy that makes Imlay feel strange so he avoids Livewire whenever possible.
Because Livewire knows that Imlay doesn’t want him the mechanic takes a week off at their latest stop and asks the captain to pick him up on the return route. What seems like the best way to dodge watching the doctor leave with his supplies turns into a nightmare for the mechanic. When the crew returns for him they discover that Livewire and another man have been tortured and held for ransom while on the planet. Luckily for the pair, Imlay never left, he couldn’t leave Livewire though he’s loath to admit it. Now, however the tables are turned because Livewire doesn’t want anyone near him, talking to him, etc. Imlay has his hands full treating his mate’s injuries, physical, mental, and at some point dealing with that pesky sex thing.
A difficult subject matter is dealt with in a firm and tender manner in Imlay’s Cure. A prickly, somewhat unlikeable character is redeemed here when the snarly, kind hearted Livewire is injured and needs his doctor. There’s no doubt that Livewire goes through hell, but it’s the change in Imlay that makes Imlay’s Cure a worthwhile story to read. This series is always evolving, the characters are never stagnant, and the plotlines are always fresh. Imlay’s Cure is irresistible.
