The morning after a wonderful night, Skip prepares to perform his normal ritual of kicking the guy in his bed out and resuming life as usual.  The man in his bed seems to think they made some sort of connection, but that can’t be.  It must have been the Insta-Love they both took…or was it?

Insta-Love is a quick, creative, and surprisingly emotional futuristic tale.  Skip lives in a world in which nothing is real, not even emotions.  He doesn’t know how to relate to a man, or make any sort of connection beyond sex, without the use of “emoti-chems” that make the user feel whatever he or she wishes to feel.  The man he picked up for a one-nighter, and knows as Wildman, doesn’t seem to have any such difficulties.  Skip’s confusion, and Wildman’s reactions, were definitely interesting to read about.  For such an abbreviated tale, the world-building and characterization are quite good.  I enjoyed watching Skip flail his way toward a new understanding, and I think a lot of other readers would too.
