Jesse Dupree is good at her job. She may have gotten this job because of her Congressman father but she wouldn’t give it up for the world. She loves helping the New Species women; working on the team that hunts for the remaining facilities harboring New Species fulfills her like nothing else. She is trained to protect herself and others but her latest mission ends with disastrous results. When Jesse is injured she is forced to readjust her life and reevaluate the people in it.
Justice North is known to the world as the leader of the New Species. He is in charge of everything New Species and dealing with their relations with the U. S. Government. All of this responsibility leaves Justice little time to have a personal life but when Jesse Dupree walks into his life he is forever changed. But is he willing to give all of himself to Jesse if it means giving up some of his responsibility?
Laurann Dohner takes a bit of an emotional turn with Justice and it’s a good one! Here I am so used to the pulse-pounding action dominating the New Species novels and Ms. Dohner throws a curve with Justice. There is still some action in Justice but not as much as the previous novels. The action that is there is intense. I definitely felt like I was in the middle of that awesome firefight. However, the majority of this story weighs heavily with emotional strife. While Jesse and Justice share intense and sizzling chemistry in the bedroom the fire that burns between them while arguing is just as great. The issues that this couple faces are unlike any of the previous couples before them. Justice is the face of the New Species and must acknowledge the ramifications of a relationship with Jesse. He must weigh the pros and cons of this relationship, unfortunately that he goes about this in the wrong ways. I admire Jesse’s strong and independent spirit. I could feel the pain as she realizes the life that lay before her. I could not get enough of what she does to change these circumstances. I just love the friendly relationship that grows with Breeze, a New Species female. I truly hope that Breeze will eventually get her own love story. I’m in love with the New Species and can’t wait to see what happens in the next story!
