Leah Wolfe has in interesting life to say the least, first off she is a federal agent with SINS (the Supernatural Investigations of Non-Human Species), she has an ex-fiancé (Joaquin Wildhorse) who is a new werewolf and is re-learning what his life will be and she is in the middle of an intense relationship with Ian Nightwalker, a vampire who happens to be a Marquis in the vampire ruling council, oh and she can see and communicate with the dead. Yes, definately an interesting life and it has just gotten more so.
Joaquin calls Leah with an SOS of sorts. Once Leah and Ian arrive where Joaquin is staying, which just happens to be the biggest werewolf pack in the US, they discover that the Alpha has been murdered which leads to the discovery of other murders. The easy part was locating who was behind the murders, the hard part is going to be figuring out how to stop the killing and bring the person to justice. As the days and hours go by, what everyone thought of as a case of bigotry has turned into something much worse. Leah is determined to put the murderer behind bars, even if she has to break the laws she has sworn to uphold to protect the innocent. While she is working this case, Ian has surprised Leah with something that could dramatically change their relationship forever. The time for confrontation arrives, leading to a lot of unexpected answers. What remains are the questions of just who is going to come out of it and will the murderer be brought to justice.
Current lovers, ex-lovers and potential lovers come together to help stop murders that seem to be targeting the supernatural in Justified. I thought that Leah’s last couple of years had been intense but I think this last case and what happened around it was the most intense yet. I could feel Leah’s frustration at knowing who was behind the murders and not being able to arrest him automatically. However, I loved that she was not going to let that stop her from ending something that was just wrong. The moves that it seems that Joaquin had made didn’t surprise me at all and yet I still don’t think he has quite moved on yet like he needs to. I have to say that out of all the characters, Ian surprised me the most and also showed me that Leah and their relationship is the most important thing to him. The final twist that allowed Leah to gain the justice she so wanted was just great. I also can’t wait to see how Leah and Ian progress in the next book. I can foresee a lot of changes in the future for many of the characters in this world and that just makes me wonder what they will be and how fast. The suspense and danger that surrounded the underlying passion made Justified a page turner. I love it when a middle book in a series is so satisfying and leaves you wanting the next book to arrive.
