Detective Samantha Colby has decided that since the break-up of her marriage and the subsequent aftermath that her career is what she will focus on. In fact, she has definitely sworn off the ‘bad boys’ that she has always been drawn to. Now, she has landed a high profile murder case and wants to prove she is at the top of her career and solve the case quickly. She definitely doesn’t need to be drawn to the Harley riding, ‘bad boy’ medical examiner. Medical Examiner Dexter Hawkins is not only excellent at his job but is drawn to Samantha.
While Samantha is on a full court press to find a killer she seems to be under attack not only from the killer, but also from her senses whenever Dexter is near.
Can she catch the killer in time? Also, will she let herself be caught by Dexter or will she stick to her rule of no ‘bad-boys’?
Poetic Injustice was a great “who done it” romance with more than one possible killer. I was drawn in by the mystery and suspense of the killing and detective work being done. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the story but I did have a bit of an issue with Samantha. She never seemed to give Dexter a chance, even when she was clearly proven wrong. I was a bit frustrated by how badly she treated him until near the end. Others might see this as a typical type ‘A’ personality and be fine with how it plays out. That said, I want to again say that I was drawn into Poetic Injustice and definitely enjoyed listening to it while weeding my perennial garden.
