Gray has no problem agreeing when his father says it’s time to take a mate, until he finds out who his father wants him mated to. Lucas Cain is the head of a family that has no money but a lot of influence. Too bad he’s a man. Gray is determined to find a way out of the mating. Then he meets Lucas, and suddenly things aren’t so simple…
Lucas Cain isn’t eager to mate himself to a man either, but he has other considerations. Many people rely on him, and the Lachin money will do a lot to secure a future for his family. He’s determined to make the most of the situation, no matter what. Actually meeting Gray changes everything.
Reluctant Mate is an enjoyable story of two men forced into a situation neither of them expected. Gray doesn’t want to mate with a man. Lucas is desperate to fix things for his family. With two such different agendas, their mating should have been a disaster. Neither man counts on developing feelings for the other. Their attempts to “prove” the mating wouldn’t work by having sex were amusing. I also enjoyed the way their feelings slowly changed from dislike, to friendship, to something more. Reluctant Mate doesn’t have a huge, dramatic conflict or a ton of angst, but it’s a fun, quick read.
