Parris McCall is doing her best to learn to master magic within the few weeks that the Council gave her. Imagine putting an entire lifetime of learning into a few compressed weeks. She is doing this while juggling running her bar and her passion for one the man who found her in the first place. Against all logic, Parris found herself totally in love with the man who brought her to the Council’s notice and had her making the deal to keep herself and her grandmother alive.
Ty Wallace loves Parris to distraction but he is fighting those feelings in order to help find the coven that seems to have a death hit against Parris; a magical group that they have named Coven X and that has escaped the Council’s notice. He and a friend are also trying to help Parris get through all of the manuals from the academy and to gain control of her magic. But when a few clues tell Ty that his old mentor might hold the keys to locating Coven X, Ty grabs Parris and they travel to the last known address of his mentor. Of course, it’s not that easy.
Someone seems to be one step ahead of Ty and Parris and now his mentor is among the missing. They receive a clue on what is going on from a very unexpected source and manage to avoid the traps that are out to make sure that not only will Ty and Parris fail but that Coven X can take down the Council as well. This undercover cold war isn’t just going on in secret either, as Parris and Ty learn when they finally discover at least one of the moles that is from Coven X and passing on knowledge. This mole has made it even more personal for Ty and Parris, and now they are redoubling their attempts to discover Coven X and bring it and its members down.
When a member of the Council and a newly discovered witch team up to discover just who and what Coven X are, passion is only one of the things that explode around them in Return of the Fae. I was very happy to revisit Parris and Ty after their initial journey into love. This time Parris is working double time to learn about her heritage and master her magic while Ty is hunting for a rogue coven. The more I learn about Parris, the more intrigued I am about her and her family’s struggle to keep safe. I love the teamwork between Ty and Parris and of course their continued journey to finally be able to just explore the love between them. I also felt the same outrage that Parris and Ty felt at the end when a special non-magical person was brought into the dangerous middle between the Council and Coven X. I can’t wait for the next chapter in this series because it’s time for a serious slap down. Return of the Fae is an action packed story filled with suspense and a furthering of a passion that is rocking more than one world. If you haven’t read about how Ty and Parris met, then I highly recommend that you read “A Member of the Council” first, but Return of the Fae could be a stand-alone if you don’t mind mentions of things that went on before.
