“Captain of Nara’s Heart” by Laurann Dohner
Earther, Nara Barns knows if caught smuggling illegal goods that she and her crew will be in a boat load of trouble. As misfortune would have it, they are caught and arrested. In order to dodge five years in prison, they agree to be auctioned off at the alien pleasure market to highest bidder for one year of sexual service. Scared out of her mind, Nara hastily makes a deal to be sold to Captain Vellar to serve as his sex partner for six days, then she and her crew will be free.
Captain Cathian Vellar miscalculated his five-year heat cycle by a month and now he is too far away from his home planet to properly couple with his female counterpart. If he does not quickly ingest enough female hormones, he will go insane and forevermore be a ravening beast. So, out of desperation, his crew buys a compatible sex slave to ease his ache for six days until females from his planet arrive. However, when the time comes will Cathian be able to honor his agreement?
From start to finish, “Captain of Nara’s Heart” is overflowing with one scorching hot sexual encounter after another. This tale will definitely make you blush with heated desire. Cathian is a hunky, sexy male who instantly captures Nara’s heart and has her swooning at his feet. While Nara, alarmed at first and rightfully so, true character quickly appears introducing her fighting, protective nature. What starts out as a necessity to survive swiftly turns into something much more to the point where neither is willing to let go.
“Dragon Heat” by Mel Teshco
Paranormal Agent Grace Macintosh’s assignment is to seduce and then to assassinate Benson Marres, the last remaining dragon shifter. However, immediately after her seduction act, the table quickly turns on Grace as she becomes the target right along with Benson because their passionate encounter instantly awakened her unknowingly dormant dragon breeding abilities. Hurt and betrayed, will Grace be able to find a way to keep herself and Benson out of harm’s way?
I found “Dragon Heat” to be an infrequent; yet, pleasant read. The entire narrative is told from Grace’s point of view. As the storyline progresses, Grace’s emotions are on an intense rollercoaster ride as she deals with her surprisingly secret bloodline history, her growing love for Benson and more shockingly, the betrayal from her team members whom she once considered family. Talk about a boat load of drama in one mini novel!
“Dangerous Addiction” by Desiree Holt
Fallon Crowe is a confident career woman who just happens to be a natural submissive. After narrowly escaping an abusive committed Dom/Sub relationship with the aid of her best friend, while missing it terribly, the last thing Fallon is looking for is to enter back into that particular lifestyle.
From the moment he hires her to promote the grand opening of his new ranch, the Dom in Cord Jamieson recognizes Fallon Crowe as the perfect submissive for him. But, because of her hurtful past, Cord knows that he must use a delicate; yet, firm hand to rope Fallon into his loving arms.
“Dangerous Addiction” will pull at your heartstrings. Fallon has gone through a horrific ordeal; however, with the compassion and unconditional love of Cord, she is able to regain her self-worth and more importantly entrusting her submissive side to be cherished by Cord. With that act alone, Cord won me over and his sexual foreplay with Fallon only added more spice to the tale. All in all, a fantastic read!
“Highland Tryst” by Eliza Knight
For months, Kari Howard has been suspicious of her boyfriend cheating on her; however, to walk in on him in bed with another man just throws her for a loop. Distraught, Kari runs down to the beach to cool down swearing never to trust in love again. Then, out of nowhere, a Scottish, kilt-wearing hottie falls out of the sky at her feet.
Seconds away from his brutal death, Highland Laird Fin is thrust into the future for a second chance at life. Shocked beyond belief at the strange happenings in the new world, Fin quickly adapts as he falls head over hills in love with a modern day woman by the name of Kari Howard. But will their background differences be too much of an obstacle to overcome?
“Highland Tryst” is a charming story about second chances. I so adore storylines like this especially when it contains a super-hot, sweet romance and lots of comical moments to smooth over potential dilemmas. Instant attraction explodes between Kari and Fin and never simmers down for one minute regardless of the fact they were from different centuries.
“Tattoo Witch” by Kathy Kulig
While vacationing, Sam Quinn and Anita Brooke encounter a couple who recommends getting a tattoo from a special shop to add more spice to their sex life. As it turns out, the tattoo shop is owned by a witch and each prosperous tattoo comes with an evil, dark side. Will Sam and Anita be able to break the curse that they have stumbled upon? Or, will they forever be tormented by good and evil entities?
Out of the six stories in this sensational collection of tales, “Tattoo Witch” is my least favorite. I thought both Sam and Anita to be somewhat immature in their actions which formed a mild aversion towards them as a couple. However, when witchcraft is involved, it is somewhat understandable of their behaviors even when one of them is game to add more spice to their sex life. Regardless, of the countless mind-blowing sexual encounters that caused blushing in my cheeks, the overall storyline still doesn’t warm me towards Sam and Anita.
“The Addiction” by Jaid Black
Seriously in need of funds and six months shy of completing her Ph.D. degree, Shelli Rodgers convinces her best friend to hire her as an exotic dancer in her club. As it turns out when it comes to exotic dancing, Shelli is uncoordinated to the highest degree.
Billionaire John Calder is a lonesome, gloomy soul. As the old saying goes, money can’t buy you love and John knows this to be true with countless, lackluster women swarming around eager join his bed. Then he meets Shelli Rodgers and his life changes forever. She brightens his life with laughter and lust…two things he has not felt in a long time. But when things move too fast, will John continue on the highway to happiness with Shelli or will his low self-worth resurface forcing him to become a loner once again?
From start to finish, my emotions are running all over the place. One minute I am laughing uncontrollably; then, in the very next I either become teary-eyed or overcome with heated desire and all of this took place in one short setting. Wow! My heart went out to John as he struggles to make sense of the unemotional person that he had become. With her vibrant personality, Shelli proves to be the picture-perfect woman to break through his shell. The sex is sizzling hot and truly an addiction for the couple. I really enjoyed this story.
Overall, I really enjoyed the genre mixture in Something Wicked This Way Comes, Volume 1. It had an excellent mix of contemporary and paranormal romances with lots of explosive sexual encounters and a host of intriguing characters. This is one great collection of tales not to be missed!
