Upon his father’s death famous astronomer Alex Christie is given his inheritance, unfortunately, it comes with strings. Alex must make his father’s Glasgow cotton mill profitable within the next two years to receive his multi-million dollar inheritance. Alex would rather stay in the states and continue with his career in astronomy but when his deceased wife’s father makes threats against Alex’s son he sees no other way to protect his boy than to move across the world.
Polly Gowan is following in the footsteps of her famous father. She is determined to see the Union change the way the masters run the cotton mills in Glasgow. When Alex Christie takes over as master of her mill Polly sees an opportunity in the making. Perhaps she can swing a master to the Union’s side. However, someone is determined to bring down the Union and the competition with a nefarious plot that lands a lot of innocent people in danger.
Alex and Polly will be forced to work together to find who is behind the mill fires and stop them before they destroy both of their lives and ruin any chances Alex has of accomplishing his father’s request. One thing Alex never counted on are the feelings that Polly stirs within him. Those feelings make Alex that much more determined to find the guilty parties before it’s too late, but can he?
Carrie Lofty’s Starlight is an exceptional historical romance! Polly and Alex share a one of a kind romance. I love Polly’s no-nonsense attitude she is such a brave character it’s hard not to fall in love with her and be willing to join her cause. When you take into consideration the time the story takes place and the kind of job Polly is attempting to do she becomes even more admirable. Alex is really out of his field when he takes over the mill in Glasgow but his beliefs steer him in the right direction. The scenes with Polly and Alex are wonderful. There is such passionate heat between them it really makes the scenes great. This is my first trip into the Christie world but I have to say I cannot wait to go back and read the first book. It’s not necessary to have read Flawless to follow Starlight but I know you will want to because the Christie family is a series worth keeping. I look forward to finding out what happens next with this endearing family saga!
