Lt. Col Roger Weston has a lot on his plate. He’s currently dealing with the fallout from a recent failed mission in Lebanon. Some of that fallout is guilt and his perceived responsibility for the death of many innocents including one of his men. His soldier left a beautiful pregnant wife behind and Roger must also deal with the burgeoning feelings he has for the stunning Mari.
Mari has lived a hard life; spurned by her family she was saved by an honorable man only to lose him as well. Now she finds herself in a country that hates people like her and she must learn new customs, a way to protect herself and how to deal with the feelings she has for her most recent protector, Roger.
As a new kind of war breaks out across the country Roger and Mari find themselves right in the middle of the action. Will they be able to save themselves and uncover the terrorist plot before it’s too late?
There is a lot going on in Tactical Deception and I definitely recommend that this series be read in order. All of the characters from Collateral Damage are back and many of the plotlines continue to unfold from that book. There are things that I like about this book and a few that I don’t. While I really enjoyed the relationship between Mari and Roger it kind of took a back stage to everything else that was going on in the story. I became more attached to Rico and Angie during this story and at times their portion of the story was more exciting. I think I could do without so many glimpses into the minds of the bad guys. I understand its importance with the massive story being told but I didn’t enjoy those sections as much. I wanted more of Roger and Mari as well as Rico and Angie. I think the story that Ms. Saint has crafted is a good one. The extreme plot going on is frightening and enthralling at the same time but I wanted more romance between Roger and Mari. If you want a killer action plot Tactical Deception is for you!
