Nick Christos has been a vampire since the Middle Ages and has experienced a lot of things in his life, including a disastrous marriage. The last eight of these years has had Nick ruling the Supernatural Council and they have truly been the most irritating and difficult thing he has done so far. The true highlight in Nick’s life is the time he spends with his neighbor Casey. Nick would love to show Casey just what his feelings are, but that would bring the fun blond into his world and Nick is afraid that might not only destroy their friendship but destroy Casey and he won’t risk that.
Casey Meyers is a graphic artist with a very big issue – a men issue. The men Casey attracts are all jerks and the only man she wants is her best friend and neighbor. Casey knows she doesn’t have the slim and tight body that is so popular right now; nope Casey is blessed with the type of curves that were so popular ages ago. For now Casey will take what she can from Nick, a best friend who shares both the good and bad times with her and one she can make laugh when no one else can. This is why Casey agreed to help Nick out of a jam and be his date for a ball.
What neither Casey nor Nick realized is that her appearance at the ball would put Casey in deadly danger from Nick’s crazy ex – one that Casey had no knowledge about. The night changes the relationship between Casey and Nick, making it much more intimate because Nick has to pick out a mate and now protect Casey. Matters are moving fast both with the danger and the passion. Marrying Nick is everything that Casey has ever dreamed of but all isn’t well in paradise. Nick is keeping secrets and there is still his crazy ex trying to kill Casey. Casey might be the only mortal in this arrangement but when push comes to shove, it’s going to be Casey who will prove just who is the toughest creature in the day and the night.
Best friends become eternal lovers when danger meets caring and passion in Take It Like a Vamp. I loved the twist of humor with the danger and the explosive and erotic relationship between Casey and Nick. Nick and Casey both wanted each other from the minute they met but circumstances had them become best friends rather than lovers. You would have thought that the vampires would command the spotlights but I found that it was Casey who was the underlining commanding character and I loved her spunky realism when faced with all the vampire craziness from the rules that bound Nick and the Council and the insane ex of Nick’s. I even cheered when Casey not only showed that she was an undercover alpha when necessary but how she showed Nick and the other vampires just how things were going to go in her unique, spunky and fun way. Take It Like a Vamp is fun and erotic with the exact right touch of suspense which makes it a page turner and a keeper. I’m really hoping that Ms. Haven brings us back into this world so that a couple of other secondary characters that I loved can have their chance at love and I can see how Nick and Casey are doing.
