Dante Chiavari is the King’s elusive assassin. Dante has been seeking revenge for the injustice done against his family for years. It looks like Dante’s greatest wish is at his fingertips but he must complete one last job for the King. Dante must stop the marriage of Avalene de Forshay to Faulke Seagrave. Seagrave would use Avalene’s powerful bloodline to wage war against his enemies, including the King.
Dante must take Avalene out of the equation. There’s only one problem, Dante never anticipated the attraction he would feel towards Avalene. But there’s no way Dante could ever gain Avalene’s trust when she learns his true identity. However, before Dante can worry about gaining Avalene’s trust and love he must save her from her intended and those who will use her to their advantage.
The Dark Knight is a haunting romantic adventure. I enjoyed Dante and Avalene’s romance. Their moments together are very special. I had a bit of trouble getting into the story at first. The beginning does give the reader an excellent view of the hero, Dante, but I found myself counting the pages until Dante would meet Avalene. And I was not disappointed because when Avalene fell into Dante’s arms the sparks flew high.
Avalene and Dante’s chemistry is immediate and darn hot. The journey they go on together is fun, fraught with dangerous passion and self-discovery. Avalene and Dante learn more about themselves and what they want for their future but will they be allowed to have what they want? The Dark Knight is a nice historical romance from Elizabeth Elliott.
