Kate Walcott was ruined by her past employer. Seeing no other options for herself, she took on employment with a courtesan, Mrs. Georgette Lawson. Georgette needed a governess for her young children, and it didn’t hurt that Kate would become a good friend to Georgette and help her to write her memoirs. Kate even found herself intrigued by some of Georgette’s exploits and affairs that she tells her about. However, Kate didn’t count on coming across Sir Colin Boscastle, the first man to break Georgette’s heart, nor did she believe that she could be tempted by the very same man.
Sir Colin Boscastle meant well when he promised to marry Georgette thirteen years before. However, he felt that he needed to avenge the death of his father before embarking on his own road to happiness. Now that path of treachery has led him back to the door of his first love. Colin has found things have changed over the years and his feelings weren’t perhaps fully engaged at the time with Georgette, as he quickly finds himself enamored of the young governess in her employment. Colin managed to convince Georgette to help him see justice served, but soon Kate is caught up in the machinations. Can he convince Kate that he can change his thirst for vengeance, or will he lose her to the same forces that claimed his father years ago?
The Mistress Memoirs was so much more than I thought at first. There were twists and turns throughout The Mistress Memoirs and even a bit of uncomfortable moments lurking between the covers. The stories of the protagonists were well drawn and had you feeling sorry for some of the actions that occurred in their lives.
I liked the intelligence that was displayed by Kate in The Mistress Memoirs, but was left wondering how dingy Georgette could really be. The antics that occur in The Mistress Memoirs show that Colin is truly a compassionate man, and deserves his HEA, as does Kate. I knew going into The Mistress Memoirs that it would be a touchy thing with the past relationship between Georgette and Colin. However, Kate didn’t seem overly concerned with something that happened years ago, and I took my cue from her in The Mistress Memoirs.
The Mistress Memoirs was an entertaining read that fully engaged me wondering about the culprit who destroyed Colin’s family. The characters were thoroughly enjoyable and made me wonder if they will be visited in future stories. I was fully satisfied with the outcome of The Mistress Memoirs and was glad to leave it with a smile on my face.
