After being dumped by his boyfriend during a weekend trip, Ron Winters decides to stay in the small town of Sebastian’s Bluff a while.  He finds plenty of things to take pictures of, but he doesn’t expect the attraction he feels to the brooding, secretive guy next door.  He also doesn’t expect there to be a ghost in his aunt’s house.  Taking pictures may be his job, but it begins to take a backseat to solving the dual mysteries of Drew LaSalle and the ghost.

From the moment Drew sees the city boy walking through town, he wants Ron.  His sudden, fierce attraction disturbs him, and brings up a whole lot of things he’d rather keep buried.  As he spends more time with Ron, he starts to want more than the narrow, simple life he’s defined for himself.  Can he let go of his past in order to reach for new happiness, or will he stay in his safe little world?

These Haunted Heights is a great mix of Ally Blue’s trademark angst and a cool ghost story.  I fell in love with Ron right away.  He’s slim and trendy and such a city boy, but he’s got a big heart and a lot of enthusiasm.  Sometimes he was a bit of a drama queen, yet I couldn’t hold that against him.  I thought it added to his appeal.  Drew, on the other hand, is the opposite of Ron.  He’s secretive and cold, indecisive and afraid.  There’s a lot of passion deep inside him, but a tragedy in his past makes him keep it buried.  I wanted to see Drew break free of the cage he’d built around himself and reach out for Ron’s love.  The angst really kicked in as Drew fought his feelings and tried to push Ron away.  Adding interest to the story was the mystery of the ghost in Ron’s aunt’s house.  Ron became interested in the ghost and tried some investigating, with fascinating results.  The ghost story angle wasn’t enough to detract from the romance, but rather just enough to add spice and intrigue.  Fans of Ms. Blue’s emotional romances and of her paranormal tales will find much to like in These Haunted Heights.  If you’re in need of a good drama fix with a ghostly twist, pick up These Haunted Heights.
