Olivia Scott is a British librarian is working in Gold Rush, Colorado for a year as part of a foreign exchange program. She left behind a scandal in the UK and is in no hurry to go back. Olivia has been working at the local library for six months and things have been going great until one night when a crazy man decides to attack her in the library and attempt to take her hostage.
Trey MacGilvary, SWAT sniper, just happened to be visiting the library when a man takes the beautiful librarian hostage. Trey manages to take the man down and rescue Olivia. He can’t seem to take his eyes off Olivia. Olivia is the total opposite of his type. She is a straight-laced uptight librarian, there is no way she could hold his interest, but she does. Everything she does turns him on and it is impossible for him to stay away from her.
It doesn’t take long for Trey to realize that he is putting Olivia in danger by just being near her. There is a man on the loose seeking retribution from Trey. He is determined to punish Trey for a wrong committed against him and the first thing he is going to do is take away everyone Trey cares about starting with the woman in his life: Olivia.
Under His Protection is a great addition to the Heart of Justice series. Trey and Olivia are brilliant together. He is so set on not having a serious relationship. He thinks since she is leaving in six months they can have a brief affair and they will just walk away. Trey awakens feelings in Olivia she has never experienced. She discovers who she is outside of her stuffy librarian persona. It was great to see her come into her own. When Olivia and the rest of his family become targets Trey becomes fiercely protective especially of Olivia. I really liked Olivia, I found her issues with Trey and possessive, controlling men to be very believable and it was interesting how she dealt with it. She felt safer Under His Protection but it still stung that he was telling her what to do. I just loved her internal dialog concerning this issue.
Under His Protection was an all around great read. It has wonderful characters, not just the leads but the secondary characters are great as well. They are all complex and intriguing. Their world of Gold Rush is exciting and the family atmosphere is sweet. Denise A. Agnew manages to combine exhilarating suspense and delicious romance in Under His Protection. A must read for anyone who loves exceptionally virile men determined to protect their women at any cost.
