Jolie Wilkins, Queen of the Underworld. How did her life get so complicated? One moment she was fighting a battle against the treacherous Bella when she suddenly finds herself in 1878. There she shared some bittersweet moments with the warlock who holds her heart, Rand. Yet now that she’s back, he has no recollection of their secret past and worse he doesn’t believe in a monarchy for the Underworld. With Jolie and Rand seemingly on separate sides, the sexy vampire Sinjin attempts to take a place at Jolie’s side playing off her myriad of emotions. With visions of another war coming Jolie must do everything she can to unite the Underworld for their biggest battle yet. However, there may be dark forces at play. Can Jolie discover the secrets that the people she cares for are hiding before it’s too late?
I’d like to start my review of Witchful Thinking by stating this is my foray into the series. While this is book three I did not find it difficult to follow the story or become attached to the characters. I do think I would have learned more about these characters by reading the first two books but it’s not necessary to enjoy this fun series. I feel like this book catches you up on what you may have missed without it feeling like you are reading a timeline of events. This is because of H.P. Mallory’s smooth writing style.
I had heard great things about this series and I am happy to find that they are indeed correct. Witchful Thinking stirs humor, sexual tension, suspense, and romance in its cauldron of pages magically. I found Jolie Wilkins to be an endearing, funny and witty character. I felt for her as she has such a heady position thrust upon her. I felt her struggle with her intense feelings for Rand and the disappointment that her life with him cannot be exactly as she wants it. Somehow I also felt her feelings for Sinjin to be real and perplexing. I say perplexing because even though I got the feeling she is meant to be with Rand I could not deny that the intense attraction between Sinjin and Jolie. Even more by the end of the excellent story I am dying to know more about all of the intriguing characters. And the OMG ending left me clamoring for more of Jolie Wilkins! Witchful Thinking grips you from the word go and doesn’t let go even after the last page!
