Janet has always love books and reading. She was a country music singer until she decided to stay at home to raise her son. Writing came naturally to her and she enjoys the quiet time she spends in her sock feet with her computer on her lap.
“Nightwish” was researched in Romania. Janet loved the folklore and breathtaking landscape of the Carpathian Mountains. The people of Romania didn’t speak English, so Janet had to learn some Romanian to communicate with them. They were among the most hospitable people she has ever met. She stayed with friends in Lasi for some of her stay. Bucharest was a large city with beautiful historic buildings, but the countryside was the most enjoyable place to visit.
“Nightwish” has a great deal of Romanian language in the text. She feels it was detrimental to the story.
The south is full of legend and folklore. That’s where Janet has called home all her life.. She has always believed that it’s one of the most beautiful and historic places to live. Although she has traveled extensively, she welcomes the site of the old south and home.
She enjoys the simple things in life..Family, friends and ice tea. She always says that the simple things in life are all that matter.
“Bayou Legend” was written from her experience being married to her best friend, who happens to be Cajun born. It wasn’t hard to find legend and stories among the Cajun people. This book was researched in true Cajun towns like Thibodaux, Lockport, Houma, Kraemer, Chackbay, Choctaw…towns most folks never hear of. Those are the true Cajuns. They live the life of a Cajun on the bayous. “Loup Garou” is one legend that parents have handed down to their children for decades. The stories are meant to make children behave and stay out of the woods by themselves. Whether it works or not remains to be seen.
There is a great deal of “Cajun French” language in “Bayou Legend” that was researched in the French Quarter.
Janet looks forward to writing the sequel to “Nightwish” which will be called “Nightwish II – Eriq’s Quest”. Hopefully it should be released in early 2012.
Janet would like to thank all her readers for taking the time to enjoy her books.
INTERVIEW
Hi Janet! Please tell us a little bit about your Bayou Legend series.
I have been a southern girl all my life. The bayous of Louisiana have always fascinated me with their mystical voodoo and legends of werewolf shifters. New Orleans has a wealth of history and paranormal lore. The swamps and legends made writing this series so much easier because I am writing what I know. Bayou Legend is the first novel in the series. Sacred Bayou is 2nd and now releasing on Halloween 2012 is the third novel called Bayou Guardian. The story is about a Treater or nature healer named Emily Bougouis who in thrown into the dark world of the Loup Garou or werewolf shifter. The series tells her thrilling story of life on Bayou Lafourche while adding characters like Fallen Angels, werewolves, Voodoo priestess’ and magical creatures that can blend into the cypress trees. There will be more tantalizing books in this series and I have enjoyed the journey writing them.

I read that you researched “Nightwish” in Romania. What was that like?
Romania is an absolutely beautiful country. The Carpathian Mountains are breathtaking. I wrote in Nightwish what I witnessed for myself. The lore and vampires that are mentioned in the story were true legends. I met many Romanians that actually believed in the myths. Also Gypsy’s played a major role in getting information. Life is different in Romania and some may think it primitive. But I thought is was a wonderful place to learn about history. Nightwish was written with a great deal of fact to set off the fictional characters. There’s nothing like walking into a monastery that is 700 years old and watching the hairs on your arms stand on end….if from nothing else, from so much history. And yes, for those wondering….sometimes, I got scared. There were some really spooky places. Like Poenari, Dracula’s real castle that lies in ruin. Nightwish was my first novel and not affiliated with the Bayou Series.

Will you be researching any place exciting for your next work?
Since I am starting book five in the Bayou Series, my research will continue in Voodoo and mythology of south Louisiana. I have found that no matter how much I study the heritage, there is always more to learn.
What are you currently working on?
Book five in the Bayou Series that has yet to be titled.
What pulled you towards paranormal writing?
Simply a fascination with the supernatural. I like to discern things that are normally not understood. If it’s unbelievable, I want to shot at it. Some call it curiosity, I call it being open minded. I examine all possibilities. And I love to ask the question…..what if? I try to think outside the box…so to speak.
What inspired you to become a writer?
This one is easy. There has to be an outlet for all the characters and voices roaming around in my head. I think about what my characters will do next all through the day and even when I try to sleep. I don’t think I’ll ever have writers block, because they won’t shut up long enough for me to lose new ideas.
Are any of your characters based on the people in your life?
Well, yes and no. I did write about a skinny Scottish man in a kilt that I met in New Orleans that offered me a shot of whiskey when I scraped my knee on the sidewalk. And I killed a friend of mine off in Nightwish….which she didn’t appreciate. But I try to be nice and not murder any friends of family members.
If you could co-write with another author who would it be?
Cynthia Eden
Does music influence your writing?
yes it actually does. I use at least a couple songs in each book. For just a sneak peak, there is a song called “New Orleans Lady” in my soon to be released novel Bayou Guardian.
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
other than chocolate? That’s my secret.
List three of your favorite things.
I’m a full time photographer, so I would say photography and I love haunted houses and herbal gardening.
What books have most influenced your life?
Jane Austin’s books were my favorites when I was a kid. But I have graduated to Fifty Shades of Grey as an adult.
What gets you the most excited about the upcoming Olde City, New Blood Conference?
I love the city of St Augustine. The beach has been part of my life since I was a child…I mean who wouldn’t want to try and find the fountain of youth. J Honestly I enjoy talking to others about my writing and the panels are a great way to meet readers and other authors.
Where can your readers find you in the next year besides the OCNB conference?
I am attending The Silken Sands Conference, and RWA in Atlanta. My schedule is still filling up for next year.
