Devyn Sterling grew up a blue blood but she knows her blood doesn’t run blue. She was given up at birth and she recently discovered her biological father is on the FBI’s most wanted list. Devyn entrusted this information to her husband and it got him killed; well, that and his lying, cheating ways. She also told him the identity of her biological mother and now Devyn fears for her safety as well. On the hunt for Dr. Sharon Greenberg, her biological mother, Devyn finds herself on an international journey filled with intrigue and danger. If Devyn’s to survive she’s going to need some help.
Marc Rossi is ex-FBI and the newest Guardian Angelino. When the FBI requests the Guardian’s help getting a woman out of Ireland safely, Marc is the obvious choice. Marc may have a gift with the ladies but he has yet to meet one as determined as Devyn. Marc’s attraction to Devyn is intense but his past with his ex-wife is poisoning his chances of ever moving on with someone new. Marc’s plan is to seduce Devyn to get her out of the country but without all the facts he is blindsided when danger knocks at their door.
It is a race against time as Devyn and Marc run from the peril heading straight for them. Guns and ammo may protect them from their enemy but the greatest villain they face may be trust. If Devyn and Marc can’t learn to trust each other they may end up being cannon fodder in Shiver Of Fear.
Shiver Of Fear is an absolutely marvelous suspenseful romance. Roxanne St. Claire has upped the ante in the second installment of her Guardian Angelinos series. Shiver Of Fear is a taut international thriller that takes you through the enchanting, yet mean streets of Ireland. I felt like I was on vacation while reading Shiver Of Fear. A nerve-wracking vacation but the scenery is beautiful. Ms. St. Claire paints a magical portrait of some of Ireland’s famous spots and then takes her characters on a gritty chilling escapade through the country.
I love tortured characters and Ms. St. Claire has delivered. Marc and Devyn have both been burned so badly in the past neither knows how to trust. Marc’s wife may have damaged his ability to love and trust but its Devyn’s plight that breaks my heart. Devyn is questioning her identity as she searches for her biological mother. She never quite fit in with her blue blooded adoptive parents and then she discovers her biological father is a criminal. This all leaves Devyn feeling like she’s made of bad stock. Her last hope lies with her biological mother and Devyn is going to do whatever it takes to find her and warn her about the possible danger she put her in. It is very much as if Devyn is broken inside and she will never be whole until she finds out who she truly is. Devyn may be almost thirty but she does more growing in a few days in Shiver Of Fear, than she has her entire life. I thoroughly enjoyed watching her progression from the beginning until the end. Marc and Devyn definitely deserve each other for the simple fact that these two are the only ones that can heal the others soul.
Marc and Devyn are the stars of Shiver Of Fear but I’m in love with Ms. St. Claire’s secondary characters as well! It is great to see a bit of what is going on with Edge of Sight’s Zach and Sam as well as the lovable Uncle Nino. Uncle Nino is a wise man, a fierce cook and the glue that holds this amazing family together. I love him and would love to sit at his dinner table anytime!! We get more insight into the firecracker of the family, Vivi Angelino and I can’t wait to read this skateboarding spitfire’s story. I guarantee that you will want to savor every second of St. Claire’s Shiver Of Fear. It’s one of those stories that you wish would never end! However, Shiver Of Fear has perhaps my favorite ending ever! I don’t want to give it away but I will say it brought tears to my eyes.
