When mystery writer Christopher Holmes arrives in the Berkshires of Connecticut to help his friend and mentor Anna Hitchcock run her writer’s retreat for the weekend, Anna begs him to find out who is trying to kill her as well. It doesn’t take long before everyone’s lives are in danger, including Christopher’s pseudo boyfriend, ex-cop, turned successful author, J.X. Moriarity. There’s a killer on the loose, one whose acts play out like the macabre novels in many of the writer’s manuscripts.  Christopher and J.X. have to solve the case before they end up like the victims of some of those stories.

Christopher is struggling with his feelings for J.X., feelings that are growing whether he likes it or not. With their relationship on the rocks, Christopher heads to Connecticut alone, but J.X. is there when he needs him.  Everyone is in danger and most become suspects inside of a few days. Instead of calling the police as any sane person would, Anna calls Christopher, whose qualification for ferreting out a killer is that he writes believable plots in his mystery novels. All She Wrote entertains with terrific suspense, a constant barrage of witty banter, and Christopher and J.X.’s tumultuous relationship. It has the perfect balance of mystery, romance, and eroticism. I particularly enjoyed the sexual and romantic aspects because of its significance sexually and emotionally for Christopher and J.X. (And because it’s hot as hell.) There’s a hint of something intriguing growing between them. I think there’s a lot more to explore in J.X. and Christopher’s relationship.
