Punk rocker Jethro ‘Jett’ Black and his band are considered headliners in the Underground music circuit. Jett consistently thumbs his nose at what he considers mainstream sellout musicians. Hard living from alcohol, drugs, and consistent one night stands are the perks and Jett certainly indulges, but his band mates are getting tired of him reaping the benefits of their ‘indie’ lifestyle as they seem to only get the leftovers. Of course, it also doesn’t help that Jett is the talent in the band and they know it.
Mega superstar, pop idol Billy ‘Goldie’ Goldean on the other hand is firmly ensconced in front of the corporate music machine. Goldie started his pop career as the baby in boy band 2GUD until their manager Patrick talked him into going solo. His talent took him to super nova status. He’s probably the most popular singer in the world and tucked quietly in the back of that proverbial closet.
Musical worlds collide for punk rockers and pop stars when Jett makes an off the cuff comment about Goldie during a Rolling Stones magazine interview. Little does Jett know that Goldie’s been fantasizing about Jett for sometime, so when the opportunity presents itself Goldie sneaks into a concert featuring Jett and his band. He risks exposure even though he goes as ‘Billy’ and it’s a night he’ll never forget. He’s sure Jett won’t remember and besides, Jett is totally straight.
The next time they meet is at an industry party held in Goldie’s honor that Jett crashes. Neither man had any idea of what the night would hold, the future, or the repercussions of what they chose to do, together.
Black Gold skillfully blends an imaginative look at the cut throat music industry with an incredibly passionate love story. This is a raw and gritty drama woven into a romance that begins with baby steps and results in a powerful commitment. While there are a few bumpy scenes that push reality, it is wonderful fun to envision Jett and Goldie challenging their version of authority and making their relationship work. Black Gold is a riveting page turner with an emotionally intense storyline, as well as powerfully erotic and tender moments. I Joyfully Recommend Black Gold as the winner.
