Mira is much more than a breed mate. She is also a warrior who was raised within the Order from the time she was a young child. Now after a lot of hard work, Mira is the captain of her own squad. On a night that was to have been for celebration, Mira sees the human who she holds responsible for the death of the Breed warrior she had taken as her lover many years ago. Nothing is going to stop Mira from finding out who was behind the bombing that ended up killing Kellan – even if she has to break a few rules to do so and pay the penalty.
Bowman is the leader of a rebel fraction with deep secrets; he is a ghost of a presumed dead Breed warrior. The rebels are the humans who are fighting against the Breeds and their total admittance into society. They are behind some of the worse attacks that have happened to and against the Breeds. However, Bowman isn’t like any other rebel and he runs his group very different. Their actions are done to try and keep both the humans and the Breeds safe from the fanatics.
Mira is sent out on a minor mission to escort a human to Washington, DC that turns out to change her life. Bowman and Mira come face-to-face when she is captured by a group of rebels and taken to their compound, except Mira already knows Bowman and can’t believe the instant betrayal she feels. Both Bowman and Mira struggle to deal with their feelings and the love that still bounds them together. They both know that the Order will be hunting for Mira and Bowman’s (Kellan) actions have made him an enemy to the Order now. Just as the love blooms again, a betrayal within the rebel group has Mira and Kellan working together again to track down the human Mira was sent to protect when it all began. Events are unraveling which brings both danger and a feeling of helplessness to Kellan, Mira and the members of the Order. Mira can show the future to some, but can she find a way to save a future for her and Kellan?
Can love overcome both betrayal and death when that love has come through so much already? Mira and Kellan learn this answer and many others in Edge of Dawn. I knew that this would be a new beginning for the Breeds with the next generation now fighting for their existence. Mira was an adorable young girl when we last saw her and now she is a bold and tough warrior for the Order, one with a fierce temper and even fiercer need for justice. Kellan came into the Order as a young and troubled boy. A boy that Mira instantly felt drawn to and helped become a warrior she fell in love with. I had a feeling that I would be blown away as I read Mira and Kellan’s book, but I had no idea just how amazing it would be. I had my own emotional journey as I followed Mira and Kellan’s path that would lead them back to the Order and to uncover a greater enemy than the Order has every faced. Several times I wanted to yell and at others I just wanted to cheer. I loved seeing how the original group of Breeds and their mates have prospered and to see their children grown up. I also loved how Mira and Kellan found the strength to prove that they deserved a place within the Order as a team like the others. I have a feeling that this second generation is going to be just as wonderful as the original Breeds were as they found their mates and lasting love.
Edge of Dawn has it all: action, danger, suspense, passion, betrayal and it all is wrapped up in book that you just can’t put down easily. I immediately knew that this would be a book that I would re-read many times and would never leave my reader. I am now, very impatiently, waiting for the next Midnight Breed book to see who will be the next. I knew before I finished the final page that I would have to Joyfully Recommend Edge of Dawn as a must read that will become an instant favorite. While this might be the 11th book in the series, it is like a new beginning. So if you haven’t read the other books in the series you could begin here; however, I will bet that you will need to go back and find out how the series began and how the original Breeds found their mates and defeated their foe.
