Charlotte Bennett grew up hearing about how evil the Fae were and that it was a good thing they were captured behind the walls of Piefferburg. Now she is grown and works as an accountant. Charlotte might not totally agree with her father’s opinion of the Fae but she had no intention of getting near one either. That all changed after the night she experienced an incredible dream with a sexy man and then was forced to go to Piefferburg of all places. She might not have had a choice in going but just wait until she is free from this control.
Kieran Aimhrea is an Unseelie who never wanted a soul mate and has done everything to avoid attracting one. After all, why fall in love when you know you have a curse that will kill you both as soon as it happens? However, that left him with the compulsive act needed to bring Charlotte to the Dark Tower. Kieran knows that using it is a very sharp, two-edged sword but he is confident nothing but hate will exist between the two of them.
Charlotte is beyond mad at Kieran, yet she listens to what the Unseelie Court wants from her. After trying to escape unsuccessfully, Charlotte agrees under protest to the request. She is all for anything that will get her away from Kieran faster. Thinking Charlotte with be safe with Kieran, everyone is surprised when Charlotte is almost killed twice within two days. Now on the run, Charlotte and Kieran are racing to discover the answer of where the last piece of an ancient puzzle is located. As the days go on, things are changing both in how Charlotte sees the Fae, and how Charlotte and Kieran see each other. When the immediate answers are learned, a close betrayal to the court is discovered. Kieran and Charlotte separate believing it’s best for everyone involved, but they didn’t consider the final clue, the curse, or the free Fae. As the final moves are made, will their hearts find a way to be together or is their love another battle lost in the war?
In a land of magic, can love defeat a curse meant to destroy love? Kieran and Charlotte have to find this answer in Dark Enchantment. I thought the odds were so against Charlotte and Kieran as I began reading their story, and yet, as it unrolled I was amazed yet again just how strong the soul can be. I loved how when Charlotte should have had a closed mind to the Fae, she willingly learned and grew to like them. I felt so sad for Kieran fighting his heart due to a curse for something he never did. The action packed suspense drew me in as did the growing love between Charlotte and Kieran. As I learned more about the various groups in this world, the more I have to place my hopes with Fae in Piefferburg in winning this war. Unable to put this book down, I spent a very happy day watching Charlotte and Kieran discover love, and now I can’t wait to see the next chapter as the Unseelie gear up for a war that will change the world one way or another. Dark Enchantment is a gripping story involving passion, suspense and murder with a plot that wouldn’t let me put it down. With all that happened between the pages, not only is Dark Enchantment a must read but it’s also Joyfully Recommended by me.
