The Marines had been his family, his home, for the past fifteen years until a bomb and a head injury took him out of the game for good.  These days Zack Banning spends his days doing little and his evenings nursing a beer at one of the nearby bars.  Zack suffers from delusions caused by his head injury, delusions of making love to a blue eyed angel.  No matter how many pills he takes to counter the delusions, they still haunt his dreams.

Leaving a bar one night he hears a fight in progress and even though he doesn’t want to get involved Zack cannot ignore his conscience or the guy being assaulted.  Once he saves the little guy Zack begins to wish he hadn’t gotten involved when he hears Eljin’s story. Eljin tells him a wild tale of secret military operations and conspiracies, but the biggest whopper is when he tells Zack that they were lovers.  Zack is not gay.

When men in black start shooting at them Zack is at least willing to take Eljin to a safe place.  It’s only when his old friend Gunny says he believes Eljin, despite Zack’s protests, that he is completely blown away.  Eljin spills more secrets and Zack feels his world turn upside down.  Too much is going on, too many surprises are being tossed around.  The only thing Zack knows for sure is that Eljin is becoming more important to him the more they are together. Go figure.

Dark Side of the Veil is a decadent treat for the senses.  Seriously farfetched, seriously implausible, yet so seriously entertaining.  The secrets and surprises in Dark Side of the Veil just keep coming one after another.  Even with the inventive plotline the characters manage to stay front and center while the secondary cast are just as strong and add depth to the overall story.  Zack is put into an unimaginable situation, disbelief, and anger become conviction and tenderness.  Eljin has a core of steel in a small package, constantly forced to prove his worth, yet he does so with dignity.  Once I started reading this crazy tale, I couldn’t put Dark Side of the Veil down. Plus, I can’t wait to read the next story in this riveting series.  Buckle your seat belt and hold on tight. I Joyfully Recommend Dark Side of the Veil!
