Silas Compton loves Compass Ranch.  The idea of leaving it is awful but the idea of those he loves turning away from him hurts even more.  Silas has been in love with Lucy for years but he has been afraid to acknowledge it.  He feels Lucy is too precious and he doesn’t want to damage her.  Silas has also been harboring a torch for Lucy’s boyfriend Colby.  When Lucy walks in on Silas and Colby kissing she runs away in horror or so he thinks.  Silas then runs as far and as fast as he can away from everyone he loves.

For ten years Silas has been drowning his sorrow in the treacherous lands of Alaska.  He has been drinking by night, working any dangerous job he can by day.  His love for Lucy and Colby only drives Silas to work harder and take more risks.  He takes one too many and ends up badly wounded.  He gets shipped home to Compass Ranch.  It’s time he faces those he left behind and discover everyones’ true feelings.  Can Silas, Colby and Lucy have a triad relationship in this small western town or will everyone turn against them?

Northern Exposure is an exciting and passionate story.  I definitely fell in love with Silas.  He is the typical Alpha strong, silent type.  He thinks he knows what everyone feels and just because he thinks the worst means that’s how it will be.  Lucy and Colby do make an adorable couple but it’s easy to see something is missing: Silas.  When these three are reunited after a ten year absence the tension and excitement is palpable.  Northern Exposure is emotionally gripping!  There were times I wanted to cry and yell at the characters and other times when I was overwhelmed with happiness for them.

The entire Compton family is lovely and intriguing.  I absolutely got emotionally involved with this family.  There are many great aspects to this novella.  Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon have started a series that has all the essentials to be a winner.  Northern Exposure has plenty of sexy males, stunning women, a smart matriarch and patriarch as well as an encompassing story.  I am certainly looking forward to the next Compass Brothers story.
