As a member of the Obermeyer Institute, it’s Mac’s job to stop the distribution of the drug Destiny.  Mac is a greater-than, she has studied to increase her mental fortitude and integrate the unused parts of her brain.  Mac is a rare fifty. She can use fifty percent of her brain which gives her telekinetic powers and more.  When it is discovered that young girls are being kidnapped and used to create the drug Destiny, Mac makes it her mission to bring those girls home no matter what.  She never counted on having to work with the man that she shared the best one-night stand of her life.

Former Navy Seal Shane Laughlin is running out of job options when he stumbles upon the Obermeyer Institute.  Normally he would not subject himself to becoming a test subject for a lab but he has little choice these days.  Before he enters the OI program he needs a night of sexual release and he finds exactly what he’s looking for in a small Boston bar.  Mac sets him on fire and the thought of never seeing her again is awful.  Good thing he now works at the same place she does, and one better, it seems that Shane’s proximity to Mac increases her abilities.  Now Mac and Shane must team up to fight an insane enemy and find the girls before it’s too late.

Woo hoo Born to Darkness blows away the competition! Suzanne Brockmann rockets out of the starting gate with her electrifying new series, Fighting Destiny!  I am head over heels obsessed with this book.  Born to Darkness is epic!  Ms. Brockmann has packed her novel Born to Darkness with adrenaline, sex, action and a tear-worthy romance.

Our heroine Mac is a hit first ask questions later type of woman.  Her history and unique abilities leave her believing she’s unlovable.  Ms. Brockmann really delves into the mind of her characters, and watching Mac evolve over the pages is enthralling.  The connection between Shane and Mac is a blistering fire ready to turn into a full blown inferno if Mac can give into her feelings.

Shane is a man that has fought for his country with aplomb until he was blacklisted.  Now Shane is fighting to survive in this dark and gritty world.  His search for a job leads him to Mac.  Their one night together lights a fire under him gives him back confidence and hope until Mac tells him why they cannot be together again.  Shane spends a lot of time fighting in Born to Darkness.  He fights the system, enemies and most importantly Mac.  Shane’s unflinching pursuit of Mac is wondrous.

There are many things I love about Born to Darkness but there is one thing that made me totally enamored with it.  Ms. Brockmann has managed to give the reader six main characters.  Yes, Born to Darkness focuses on Mac and Shane’s intrepid love affair but there are four other characters that get equal page time.  Ms. Brockmann has managed to make me fall for these characters just as much as I have for Mac and Shane.  While I loved everyone there is a special place in my heart for Diaz and Elliot.  Ms. Brockmann gives the reader a full on make your heart melt gay love story.  I am not used to seeing gay characters get the story they deserve among mainstream media but Ms. Brockmann tells a powerful and ebullient story here.  The story with Bach and Anna is also gripping.  I cannot wait to see what happens next between them!  That stunner of an ending has me cursing the wait for book two!
