During her concealment at St. Christopher’s Abbey, Lady Davina Montgomery has been taught to trust no one.  Yet, her life is irrevocably changed when her whereabouts are discovered and a battle ensues at the Abbey, killing the only friends and family she has ever known.

Robert MacGregor comes across the last bits of the battle taking place at St. Christopher’s.  The Captain of the King’s Royal army asks Robert to save Lady Montgomery from the attackers of the Abbey.  Not one to deny anyone in need, Rob risks life and limb to see Davina to safety and discovers the secrets that she hides.

Rob finds he is tempted by the beautiful novice, and he tries to hold himself back from the temptation as he has been burned by his desires in the past.  Refusing to risk all that he knows for a bit of pleasure he embarks upon a quest of denial in order to seek Davina’s safety, but he could never know that some temptations are just too hard to resist.  Will Davina and Rob learn that sometimes you have to trust someone to see to your needs, or will they continue to hold themselves back in order to protect all that they know?

Ravished by the Highlander is a wonderfully, romantic tale set during a very corrupt time.  The politics of the time are carefully set as a backdrop to the romance of Rob and Davina, and they just add to the intrigue and depth of the story.  Davina learned to slowly trust Rob over the course of Ravished by the Highlander despite the fact that she was told to trust no one.  Rob had an inborn need to protect those who could not protect themselves and this ran true to his character in Ravished by the Highlander.

Rob was a wonderful hero.  He was very confident and sure of himself, and, come on, he is a Highlander!!  He trusted Davina even though he didn’t know her as he takes her to his home that is hidden away.  Davina is not forthcoming with her secret, but Rob soon figures it out and waits for her to reveal it to him. Yes, Davina tried to manufacture some angst in the story, but it didn’t last long.  She soon realized that that path she was treading was incorrect where he was concerned.  Ravished by a Highlander had a strong alpha male that did NOT have to blackmail his woman to get what he wanted.  He knew what was best for her and that was staying with him!  Sure she has to make some choices, but Rob was there all the way and he wasn’t going to give in easily.  I felt that in the end, only Rob truly loved her, and could protect her the way no one else could ever do.

I truly enjoyed the romance in Ravished by the Highlander.  I liked that Davina seemed pretty mature and wished to show mercy to someone who had wronged her in the past.  I also liked that Rob could see her point and acquiesced to her wishes.  Ravished by the Highlander had my emotions involved, and I was touched by several scenes in this wonderful romance.  I enjoyed their slow romance that built from the ashes of her life.  Rob was gentle and patient with Davina when she didn’t trust him completely in Ravished by the Highlander and that just made him an even better hero in my book!  Even though he was hurt by her distrust, he still took his time with her and wasn’t barbaric towards her.  I was very entertained by Ravished by the Highlander and I look forward to reading the stories of the other characters in the Children of the Mist series.
