One year. It has been one year since Ethan Kelly’s life fell apart. One year in which he has had to learn to live alone, eat alone, sleep alone. One year to accept that his wife is dead and learn to live again. Ethan’s grief is not just for Rachel – it is for their marriage as well. Ethan knows he will never love another woman as much as he loves his Rachel, but facts remain what they are. She is gone and he isn’t. And then a package arrives in the mail for Ethan showing Ethan that the death he thought was absolute just might not be. Who does Ethan turn to for answers? His brothers, the owners and operators of Kelly Group International, or KGI. Ethan doesn’t count on Rachel not remembering him or their marriage, but vows to be the husband she deserves.
Ethan Kelly is the epitome of a hero. He loves Rachel with a near fervor that made me shiver in delight. Maya Banks has an uncanny ability to write perfect alpha heroes and her characterization of Ethan and his imperfections just worked. Rachel is one strong lady and her fight to remember and become ‘normal’ again is full of strength, composure, and her inner love for Ethan is what keeps her going.
The Darkest Hour is a worthy and totally rocking first installment to Maya Banks’ new series, KGI. It is suspenseful, sinfully sensuous, and straight up awesome. I joyfully recommend it!
