Risa Jones is half Aedh and half werewolf.  While she can’t shift into a werewolf she can become Aedh and maneuver the gray fields.  Risa can also see Reapers as they follow the soon to be dead.  Risa’s mother has been a long time employee of the Directorate, a paranormal policing organization.  Risa has promised her mother and her Aunt Riley that she would never join the organization.  Risa is content running her trendy restaurant with her two best friends she’s not interested in becoming a causality in the latest paranormal war.  Oh and she wouldn’t mind finding a steady partner to fulfill her womanly needs.

When Risa’s mother asks her to help out a friend she is reluctant.  However, Risa agrees and what she finds disturbs her.  A little girl has had her soul brutally ripped from her body.  She can never find peace on the light path, never be reborn again.  Only something truly evil could do this and Risa is determined to find the culprit even if it puts her own life in peril. It’s a good thing Risa has great friends and her own personal reaper to help her because this journey is about to get dark and dangerous.

Darkness Unbound is a Must Read! I love, love, love it! Keri Arthur’s pen must be charmed because Darkness Unbound is magnificent!  Ms. Arthur’s first person writing, kick ass action, and indelible heroine left me enraptured.  I never imagined Ms. Arthur could create another character that I would fall so in love with like I did Riley Jensen but she has done it!  Risa Jones is a one of a kind; she is the next generation’s paranormal superheroine!  Her powers are super cool and a little bit scary, and it’s obvious she has in no way reached her full potential in the power department.  Not only have I fallen in love with Risa but the secondary characters are pretty damn hot as well!  From Risa’s very cool roommates to her latest squeeze, the characters of Darkness Unbound are yummy and exhilarating!

Don’t think that just because this story is rolling in fast-paced action that there is no romance.  Risa has her fair share of potential lovers and each one is sexy and unforgettable.  However, trust is bound to be an issue; she’s been hurt in the past and isn’t about to jump into anything serious…yet.  Darkness Unbound oozes sex, passion and love mixed with one hell of a mystery.  This story is unique, dark and a bit frightening!  I was snared from the first page and enthralled until the very end.   The ending of Darkness Unbound left me on the precipice of a large cliff aching for the next chapter in Risa’s thrilling story!  I will be counting down the days until I can get my hands on Darkness Rising!
