Amber Bailey is new in town and trying to turn her aunt’s old house into a pet daycare business and finally find a community where she feels at home. She doesn’t count on the expense of bringing the house up to code for a business or the cold shoulder she is getting from the neighbors. She definitely doesn’t count on the hunky fire chief asking her out on a date, or her reaction to him. But, will she ever fit in and be accepted or will she end up moving on?
Gregg can’t believe the spunky woman he pulls out of a tree, especially as she keeps insisting she is ok by herself. In fact he finds that she is the first person who has attracted him in a while and decides to ask her out. As they fall in love he encourages her to give the town a little time to get used to her and her business. What he doesn’t count on is that his regulations will cause him to have to report her business’s code violations before she has time to get them repaired, which just might ruin everything.
How can Gregg support this independent woman in such a way that she doesn’t think he is taking over, but offering expertise and love?
Where There’s Smoke is a laugh out loud fun read. I loved how Ms. Kayn portrays small town communities as well as a newcomer into their midst. I found myself laughing from the sandcastle contest through the dog antics near the end. There are also poignant moments when Amber is faced with what really matters to herself more her pride or her love and happiness. Any lover of hot firemen and animals will want to pick up this joyfully recommended read.
