Aric
Christian is a nerdy science major with a terrible
secret—he’s becoming a vampire. He spends all his time
trying to find a cure, but as yet he has been unsuccessful.
Then, after an accidental brush with a football, he meets
star football player Stu Hamilton. To his annoyance, he
keeps running into the man.
Stu comes
from a long line of vampire slayers. Realizing what Aric’s
up against, he’s determined to help, but the prickly man
won’t let him. Will Stu and Aric figure out how to save
Aric before it’s too late?
Last
Chance features an unusual and fascinating form of
vampire, different from anything I’ve ever read. The race
against time to save Aric was also an interesting twist.
Aric himself was a puzzle, both prickly and vulnerable.
Stu’s also multi-faceted. He seems like nothing more than
an easygoing jock, but he has hidden depths. Unfortunately,
something about Last Chance just fell flat for
me. Aric’s resistance to a relationship with Stu, and Stu’s
help with his problem, started to grate on my nerves after a
while. Everything happened a bit too fast, leaving me
wishing for more world- and relationship-building. I also
found, at the end, that the tortured vampire Johan was the
most interesting character and I wanted to read more about
him (Hint, hint to Viki Lyn, lol). That said, those looking
for a different spin on vampire lore will find Last
Chance well worth a read. |
