“Bitter Ball” by Bridget Midway
Attending the annual Bitter Ball is
something career-oriented Danika and her friends do every
year. This year she’s determined to help her closest male
friend G.T. Pithall find a special someone. G.T. would be the
perfect man for her if only he was more of a city slicker like
herself. The Bitter Ball may have more surprises than either
G.T. or Danika could foresee as two old friends see that just
maybe their differences aren’t that big at all.
Quirky madness is something I’ve come to
expect when reading a Bridget Midway story. “Bitter Ball” is
no different. The author continues to appeal to my odd sense
of humor as her latest couple G.T. and Danika are more
opposite than the couples on Trading Spouses but better
suited than a lock and the key that opens it. I’m sure readers
will smile and enjoy this comedic addition to this interracial
themed anthology.
“Heart Wrangler” by Lena Matthews
Moving to Arizona to join her childhood
best friends has Georgia excited for more reasons than one. Not
only is she happy to see her best friend Georgia again, but
also gets the chance to be around Georgia’s older brother
Sterling, the boy now turned man, that she’s been in love with
since they were children. Hopefully she can get him to see
past her childhood antics to the woman she now is, hoping they
can turn a friendship into the love of a lifetime.
Georgia is a woman who’s finally decided to
go for what she wants. Having desired her best friend’s
brother for years, this sassy heroine decides to push the
envelope and get her man once and for all. Lena Matthews has
written a story I’m sure readers will find sexy and exciting
as these two lock horns due to the Sterling’s stubbornness to
see Georgia for the woman she’s become. “Heart Wrangler” is a
great story from an author who continues to shine.
“Sex on South Beach” by Seressia Glass
Nothing helps the blues of a break-up
better than wet sands, sun and the beaches of Miami. Kat and
her friend Gina are waxed and ready to partake in the male
offerings plentiful in the city where beauty reigns supreme.
Sicilian restaurateur Pietro Filipini is immediately ensnared
at the sight of Kat and makes sure he doesn’t waste anytime
getting her to have dinner at his restaurant. The two soon
embark on a whirlwind affair that brings with it a chance for
a love of a lifetime.
“Sex on South Beach” is cute story about
a woman basically trying to get her groove back, albeit with a
man her own age. Kat and Pietro are two professionals who
click... As a fan of Seressia Glass’ work, I will admit that,
though I enjoyed this short story, this wasn’t a true
indicator of how talented an author she really is.
“Bayou Temptress” by Raquel Taylor
Deputy Sheriff Aja Simoneaux doesn’t
believe in monsters but the Hollywood superstar Brett Romano
just seems too believable in his assuredness that it was a
monster that kidnapped his sister. Throwing caution to the
side and possibly the job she loves, Aja teams up with Brett
as forces around them work to squash any plans to unearth a
plot that has been generations in the making. One that even
Hollywood couldn’t have dreamed up.
Out of all the stories in this anthology,
I have to admit this is my favorite. Raquel Taylor’s “Bayou
Temptress” was one with a beguiling plot and a couple that
were made for the term hot and heavy. I was impressed with the
ending and am sure it will make Ms. Taylor an author to look
for in the future.
“Cowboy Cool” by Simone Harlow
Veronica has one purpose in her father’s
company and that is to seal the deal. Sent to rein in a
country music singer who isn’t being responsive to her
father’s ploys to come out of semi-retirement, Veronica is
sure she can make it happen. Funding for her charity rests on
getting this right. J.B. isn’t interested in the city girl
coming to do her daddy’s bidding. He is interested, however,
in how she appeals to everything male inside of him. Country
and city come together in a mix made in country music heaven
as Veronica and J.B. figure out they are more than perfect for
each other.
Last but not least, “Cowboy Cool” was a
story that actually called to the romantic in me. I love
seeing two people come together despite vast lifestyle
differences and find a happily ever after that’s right for
them. This is the first glimpse I’ve had of Simone Harlow’s
work but I look forward to seeing what other projects she has
on the horizon.
What White Boyz Want is
basically what the title infers, features where caucasian men take center stage and their desire for ebony
beauties reigns supreme. Fans of stories with an interracial
theme will consider this a smorgasbord of sensual delights
where fun and happiness are fundamental to a great story. I
hope to see more from all of these authors in the future
because this anthology shows why they are well known in their
market. |
