Fashion
photographer Velvet Arceneaux has a lot on her plate. She’s
going through an amicable divorce, raising a son, and
spending a lot of time trying to hone her craft. When she
attends a masquerade party for her employer, the Depalma
Agency, she plans to stay a while and then go home alone.
Instead, she gets much more than she bargained for. First
Trevor Sutton, the man she shared one night with eleven
years ago, appears on the scene. Then her friend Jamie
Lynn, one of the models, disappears. Can Velvet and Trevor
solve the mystery of Jamie’s disappearance before it’s too
late?
Velvet Deception combines suspense with a bit
of bondage / fantasy play. Aubrey Ross penned a twisty plot
with many layers of deception. Each time something was
revealed a new mystery arose. The story of Velvet
Deception was interesting and fast-paced. Velvet’s
determination to find her friend was admirable. I liked
Trevor’s willingness to fulfill Velvet’s fantasies as well.
Unfortunately, for some reason I just couldn’t connect with
the book like I wanted to. Maybe it was because of the
villains, who were not very three-dimensional, or maybe it
was because of Trevor and Velvet’s tendency to have sex when
it seemed to me they ought to be doing something to solve
their case. At any rate, while Velvet Deception
had a few flaws, it still held my interest and would
probably please many suspense fans. |
