A refugee from her home planet, Laleh
Sarafpour has utilized all of her resources to stay on Earth
and despite all of this she is going to be deported back to
her home planet in a matter of days. What Laleh needs is a
miracle – she knows that her life is forfeit if she is
forced to return to her homeland. Laleh’s salvation comes
in the form of Pike Grayson, a Spacefleet admiral. He is a
hero in his own right and when he proposes a marriage of
convenience in order to keep her safe, Laleh wants to know
what’s in it for him. Regardless of Pike’s reasons for
helping her, Laleh knows he is her best bet to staying alive
– and so they marry. The danger to Laleh has not gone away,
however, because her past catches up to her in the worst
way. Will Pike be able to protect her?
Lolita Lopez employed several attention
getting plot devices in Refuge. And those
devices worked extremely well. Pike and Laleh’s attraction
for each other was realistic and consuming. The time Laleh
and Pike spent getting to know each other was exactly what
Laleh needed. Her arousal whenever Pike is near was
something that she had to learn about and handle. Pike’s
love for Laleh was intense and very sexual, but it was a bit
more. To him, Laleh was his and he vowed to do anything,
and I mean anything, to keep her safe. And he did.
Refuge is a worthy and
attention grabbing read. Of course, I am a fan of marriages
of conveniences and that made Refuge the
perfect book for me! |
